Youth Championships in Riesenbeck on two Weekends

In times of the corona pandemic, which is characterized by show cancellations on a continuous basis, there now are good news for the youngsters in dressage and jumping: The German Youth Championships in dressage and jumping (DJM) are to take place on the Riesenbeck International facility!

The peculiarity lies in the fact that the championships will be split into two weekends: the dressage riders will start on the weekend of September 11th to 13th. A week later, from September 18th to 20th, the show jumpers will determine their champions. The split of the big event is necessary to ensure the sporting highlight of the year for the young athletes. Of course, great importance is attached to the prescribed hygiene and clearance rules. Show director Karsten Lütteken sees this from a pragmatic perspective: “The competition will be the top priority on both weekends. The supporting program, which has also been an important part of the DJM in recent years, will be based on the (then applicable) corona regulations."

The participants and their companions are still raving about the great atmosphere that made the DJM a real highlight in Riesenbeck in 2016: At that time, host Ludger Beerbaum greeted his successors in the saddle from the Olympic Games in Rio and kept his fingers crossed for everyone. There was live music and an exuberant party. This will be very different at the second edition of the championships in Riesenbeck. "Unfortunately, we will definitely not have the size of the last event," says Karsten Lütteken. "But we are all trying to make the DJM 2020 an unforgettable event again."
