Eiken Sato wins first Grand Prix of the indoor season

October 4. 2022

The outdoor highlights of the summer are history. Now the indoor season begins and with it the start of the 2022/23 World Cup season is just around the corner. No wonder that this weekend at Riesenbeck International the fixed boxes were filled to capacity and the starting field was almost bursting at the seams.

The Riesenbeck International Indoors** already has a fixed place in the tournament calendar of many international riders. This is because riders and horses can get used to the new conditions here in a large indoor arena under the best conditions.

In the final jumping competition, the Grand Prix of Riesenbeck Indoors** 2022, 58 pairs competed, 19 of which had qualified for the jump-off with a clear round. Eiken Sato, a member of the Japanese show jumping team at the Olympic Games in Hong Kong (2008) and Tokyo (2020), now 36 years old and based at Paul Schockemöhle, rode his 15-year-old Chacanno Jra, a son of Chacco-Blue, into the arena already with a visible will to win. The time stopped at 36.00 seconds after a faultless ride. This also caught up with Marcus Ehning's time with the Holsteiner mare Flower Girl (0/37.51), who is only nine years old. He nevertheless finished in second place with satisfaction. Third place went to Emma Emanuelsson (SWE) on Canbella Blue (0/37.64).

206 riders with 317 horses competed over the three days. World Championship fifth-placed Marcus Ehning brought his Stargold along for a taste of the indoor air, Ludger Beerbaum saddled Mila, the Grand Prix winner of the Longines Global Champions Tour stages Doha and Mexico. Gert Jan Bruggink, winner of the Grand Prix last weekend, showed Vigalio Sho Z the indoor.  Also competing, the Lucas and Wilton Parter brothers (USA), coached by Jeroen Dubbeldam, the 2000 Olympic Champion.

Five final competitions were scheduled for the final day. In the morning the tournament started with the final competitions of the Youngsters, the Light, the Small and the Medium Tour.

FUNDIS Youngster Cup (6-7 year olds): Here Maren Hoffmann won with Feine 39, ahead of Laura Monier (FRA) with Evita Peron and Justine Tebbel on Donut.

Light tour: First place went to Justine Tebbel on Don Fettie, ahead of the Irish rider Matt Garrigan on Savarona and Marco Müller on Conraldik.

Medium Tour: In the Medium Tour, Felix Haßmann won on Catch me. Second was Simon Heineke on Gatsby L, third place went to Hans-Thorben Rüder on Singu.
